Looking for the perfect Brisbane Accommodation to start your Moreton Island trip? Located just 40km from Moreton Island, Brisbane is an excellent place to spend the night before/after exploring the delights of Moreton Island by day.

Brisbane has everything you could want or need from a modern city.

Interestingly, some of the events that took place on Moreton Island lead to the first colonist settlement at Brisbane. The story goes that three ticket-of-leave convicts were en route to Lllwarra from Sydney when their ship was blown off course in a terrible storm.

21 days after being blown off course, the trio were finally able to beach their boat on Moreton Island but by that time, they were desperate for water and very ill.

The Aborigines on Moreton Island found the three men and took care of them until they were well enough to be transferred back the mainland.

It was while they were attempting their way back to Sydney, that the convicts discovered the Brisbane River.

Later they met John Oxley who was on an expedition to find an agreeable location for a new penal colony and when prompted they to lead him to Brisbane River, where he went on to establish the roots for modern-day Brisbane.
